first steps
First Steps is a Suzuki Early Childhood Class designed to lay a foundation for lifelong learning by the Suzuki Association of the Americas. First Steps is a class for very young children that aims to develop musical ability early, expand vocabulary, focus, and creativity, develop cooperation, trust, and patience.
The class follows a two week alternating curriculum which includes action rhymes, songs, instrument introduction, and interactive opportunities. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Children finishing this program have a heightened sense of rhythm, pulse, pitch, increased fine motor skills and singing ability which makes the introduction of musical instruments and Suzuki music lessons natural and enticing. Continuing attendance of these classes through age three provides children with a solid foundation for instrument studies which may begin as early as age 3 1/2.
A new cohort of Suzuki violin students will start in September, 2023 on Bainbridge Island. More information at Violin Suzuki Studies.
